evroc upgrade
Upgrade this evroc CLI to the latest release
Synopsis
Upgrade this evroc CLI to the latest release.
The command asks the evroc download server for the newest published CLI release. The download server address must use https. When this binary was built from that release, the command reports this and does nothing else.
When a newer release exists, the command downloads the binary that matches this system (operating system and architecture) and checks it against the published checksum. A release that publishes no checksum installs with a warning. When the server cannot serve the checksum, the command stops before it downloads: it does not install a binary that it cannot check.
It then replaces the installed binary with one rename on the file system, after it wrote a backup of the previous binary next to it. The new binary must pass a version self-test. When the self-test fails or the new binary does not run, the command puts the previous binary back and exits with an error.
With --dry-run, the command prints what it would do and changes nothing: it prints the running commit, the release it would install, the download URL, and the install path.
With --version, the command installs exactly the named published release instead of the latest one. Give the complete release name, for example --version 20261019-1792428909-root-3d363240. A named release that carries the commit of this binary counts as already installed, even when the exact name was never published: the command reports this and installs nothing.
Before it writes its own backup, the command also removes the backup files that earlier upgrades left next to the binary.
Two upgrades of the same installed binary do not run at the same time. While one upgrade holds the lock of the install, a second upgrade stops with an error and changes nothing. The backup sweep runs under the same lock, so it cannot remove the backup of an upgrade that runs at the same time. The lock works across processes on linux and macOS only.
